About Us
Founded in 1893, we are an Independent Christian Church located in the Surprise area of Jackson County, Indiana. We are a very close-knit group of believers who love to fellowship and share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with everyone we encounter. Below is our original Statement of Faith that was documented 125 years ago. We are proud to say that these words still hold true today with what we believe and how we serve our God.
What We Believe
We believe the Bible to be the true and inspired Word of God.
We believe that Jesus Christ is God's Son; that He lived a perfect life, died a cruel death, has risen from the dead, and is in Heaven with God the Father.
We believe the Holy Spirit has been sent to earth to give power to every believer.
We believe in baptism by immersion, and that Jesus Christ is the only way of salvation and to the Father.
We believe that through Jesus' sacrifice we can be forgiven of our sin, as we accept the Father's grace.
We believe the church is the bride of Christ and should be treated as such by each member.
We believe that each member makes up the church, and that church is not a building but a group of people.
We believe that we should meet together on the first day of the week to worship together and commune with God the Father.
Statement of Faith
August 19, 1893
"We the members of the Church of Christ at Surprise Indiana have been baptized upon the confession of our faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. We desire to unite in a congregation, because we believe in the wisdom of associated effort in things spiritual as well as things temporal because we earnestly desire to grow in grace and in the knowledge of the Word of God, because we believe that by combining our means and talents we may become more influential workers for Christ in the community. Securing there-by more consecration for our cause as well as a deeper Christian life for ourselves.
We have taken God the father to be our God, Jesus Christ to be our Savior, the Holy Ghost to be our Cherished Guest and Sanctifier, the Word of God to be our only rule of faith and practice, the salvation of all people to be our object of perpetual concern, and the people of God to be in an especial service.
Our people in order to fulfill most effectively this solemn covenant we do now on this nineteenth day of Aug.1893 unite to form a Church of Christ at Surprise Indiana, and we do here-by covenant to do all in our power to promote the growth, spirituality, and general prosperity of this congregation to this end.
We pledge ourselves by the aid of God's Word to lead lives of personal righteousness, to give freely as the Lord blesses our labors for the maintenance of His cause to attend faithfully upon the Church, and to do good to all men, but especially to those of the household of faith in testimony of our deliberation and sincerity we here unto cause our names to be applied."
